Earning a four-year Letterman award is a special honor that most athletes never have the privilege to enjoy like Jamel Lewis of Bowie High School. Jamel is an honor student, a captain of the football team and most recently, a recipient of a football scholarship to attend Virginia Union University CIAA in the fall.
At 5’10” and 235lbs he is a Bulldog to the core; playing all four years of his high school athletic career with the Bulldogs. A two-time team captain and football standout, Jamel held down the core middle linebacker position for the embattled Bulldogs. Coach and student alike say that Jamel is a role model and great student; on and off the field of play.
At the end of this football career he knew that Virginia Union would be the place for him. In fact, he told his coaches earlier this month that if they attended the upcoming “Playmaker Recruiting Showcase and Combine” to personally tell the Virginia Union football representative so. Well, as you can imagine that wasn’t just wishful thinking on Jamel’s part. The coaches at Virginia Union made an easy decision after reviewing Jamel’s academic and athletic profile. Honor student, outstanding football player, and NCAA cleared; it was a wrap!
Jamel plans to major in Sports Medicine and someday open his own business. For now he will focus on graduation and preparing to take his football career to the next level.
