The Charles Flowers Jaguars moved pass the Bladensburg Mustangs in an impressive 27-6 win at Jaguar Stadium in Springdale on Saturday.  Flowers exploded in the first quarter when Running Backs Daquan Davis #28 and Carl Turner #6 combined for a pair of touchdowns to put the Jaguars ahead 13-0. The Jaguar defense held Bladensburg to less than 50 yards of total offense in the first quarter.  The Jaguars’ third touchdown at the top of the second quarter came when Jaguar Quarterback Roman Williams threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Bentley Ukonu giving Flowers a 21 point lead.  With just 8 minutes left in the second quarter, a Flowers’ muffled punt is recovered by the Mustangs on the Jaguars 20 yard line.

A local tennis team won their first round match at the 6.0 United States Tennis Association National Championship in Arizona Friday afternoon.  The local team known as the DMV Smashers is representing the best in the 6.0 category mixed double tennis teams in DC, Maryland, Virginia area.  Making it to a National Championship in their first year was a major accomplishment.  For a first year team, the Smashers blazed through the Metro-area tennis ranks to win Mid-Atlantic Sectionals.

In round two of day one the DMV Smashers started to face some tougher competition.  The team lost most all three courts during the second round contest making it a must win in round three.  In round three the DMV Smashers played inconsistent, disjointed and were unable to push past their third round opponents.  With this loss, the Smashers were eliminated from the rest of the championship matches.  This first year team has earned the respect and admiration of tennis fans locally and nationally.
