The Brothers and Sisters Express flag football team defeated the Ball Thugs (9-0) in the Mid East Sports Spring Championship game Saturday at Cardozo High School in Washington DC. Both teams represented the very best in the western division and in doing so; they put on a display of defensive might through-out the contest. In the 1st half the Ball Thugs produced several successful offensive drives into Brothers and Sisters territory but fail to capitalize. Due in part to the lock-down corners in the Brothers and Sisters secondary, lead by Dupree and Kerns. The Ball Thugs' well organized style of play and skillful players showed restraint and good sportsmanship during several controversial calls the final minutes of the 2nd half. The winning drive came late in the 2ndhalf thanks to a 45 yard reception by Dupree “Deuce” Lawrence. Dupree’s reception was the momentum the Brothers and Sisters needed to setup the winning score to clinch the championship. Congratulations to Brothers and Sister Express for outstanding team effort and execution towards winning the 2012 Spring Championship. Well done.

The 2012 United Way Campaign served up a little healthy basketball competition between the Prince Georges County Department of Public Works “Ballaz” and the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections “Renegades”. For the Campaign, both agencies teamed up to hold a charity basketball fundraiser at Cedar Heights Recreational Center. A greater than expected crowd of fellow employees, family members and agency leadership were on hand from both agencies to support their employees including DPW&T's own Gwen Clerkley, Associate Director of Highway Maintenance and Andre Issayan, Deputy Director of DPW&T just to name a few.

The Ball Thugs are probably one of the most organized and well talented team you will see in flag football competition in the metro area. A diverse and skilled team; they exemplified the spirit of “National Athletics”; good sportsmanship in healthy competition. The Charles Flowers Jaguars moved pass the Bladensburg Mustangs in an impressive 27-6 win at Jaguar Stadium in Springdale on Saturday. Flowers exploded in the first quarter when Running Backs Daquan Davis #28 and Carl Turner #6 combined for a pair of touchdowns to put the Jaguars ahead 13-0. The Jaguar defense held Bladensburg to less than 50 yards of total offense in the first quarter. The Jaguars’ third touchdown at the top of the second quarter came when Jaguar Quarterback Roman Williams threw an 11 yard touchdown pass to Bentley Ukonu giving Flowers a 21 point lead. With just 8 minutes left in the second quarter, a Flowers’ muffled punt is recovered by the Mustangs on the Jaguars 20 yard line.
